Phong Chanthalavanh

Phong Chanthalavanh, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11th at 1:30 p.m. at Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with Bountham Khamphilanouvong officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. The daughter of Xiengtha and Vanhdy Chanthalavanh, Phong was born on January 30, 1927, in Vientiane, Laos. In 1947 she married Nhot Chanthalavanh in Vientiane, Laos. He precedes her in death. In 1993, Phong moved to be with her family in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She was a full time mother and homemaker. Phong enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She is survived by five sons, Jeno (Bounthaeo) Chanthalavanh of Mt. Pleasant, Bounhong Chanthalavanh, Chanthalay Chanthalavanh, Saylom Chanthalavanh, and Somsavanh Chanthalavanh all living in Laos; four daughters, Bounyom Chanthalavanh, Sankhom Chanthalavanh, Bounthai Chanthalavanh and Somchanh Chanthalavanh all living in Laos; 30 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Thongkham Chanthalavanh living in Laos; and two sisters, Boun Chanthalavanh and Soun Chanthalavanh of Laos. Along with her husband, Phong is preceded by her parents; and two children.
