KEOTA-Philomena Lillian Sheetz, age 84, of Keota, died Friday, March 30, 2007, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa, following an extended illness. Philomena was born June 28, 1922, in rural Keokuk County, to Henry F. and Teresa A. (Ott) Bombei and received her education in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic School in Clear Creek. On February 26, 1946, she married Hubert Sheetz at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clear Creek Township. A homemaker, Philomena was a lifelong resident of the Talleyrand community. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. Survivors include two daughters: Carolita Sheetz of Keota and Mary Ann Cumings and husband Scott of Windsor, CO; three sons: Robert Sheetz and wife, Jeanne of North Liberty, IA, Rex Sheetz and wife Kristi of Keota and Jerry Sheetz and wife Rita of Keota; nine grandchildren: Chad, Tera, and Luke Sheetz, Ian Barta;, Keely Garren and Preston Pierson, Riley, Taylor and Madison Sheetz; four great grandchildren; Jaden, Jenaya, Jaylen & Jackson; one brother: Herbert Bombei of Keota and two sisters: Marie Redlinger of Keota and Mary Louise Walker of Washington and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Hubert in 1992; an infant grandson and four brothers: Richard Bombei, Howard Bombei, Robert Bombei and Raymond Bombei. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2007, at Holy Trinity Parish-Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2007, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a prayer service/rosary at 4:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospital. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
