MOUNT PLEASANT- Peggy Hays, 81, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, July 7, 2023, at Henry County Health Center.
Peggy was born September 7, 1941, in Yarmouth, Iowa, the daughter of George and Neva Mae (Wobbe) Riley. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1959. On February 28, 1960, Peggy was united in marriage H. Clark Hays at the Wesley Chapel in Mount Pleasant. Peggy worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Robert Wettach for 10 years and a pharmacy technician for Fitzpatrick Pharmacy for 10 years. She also worked part-time for Wieland’s Flowers and Greenhouse. Peggy was an active long-time member of the former Congregational Church in Mount Pleasant, where she served in many capacities. She was Secretary and Treasurer of the Iowa Taxidermists Association for eight years. Peggy enjoyed reading, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and flowers. She was fond of attending Old Threshers and looking for antiques. Peggy loved spending time with her family, and had a special place in her heart for helping others.
Peggy is survived by her daughter Tracy (David) Owens of Ely; two granddaughters, Emily (Jim) Gratner of Indianapolis, IN, Suma Janecek of Cedar Rapids; three great grandsons, Lance, Miles and Nolan Gratner; sister Phyllis (Richard) McGohan of Mount Pleasant; sister-in-law Katie Riley of Grinnell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clark, three brothers, an infant, Ronald and Terry.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 pm Tuesday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will greet friends from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established for Shriner’s Children Hospital and Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
