Paula Jae Thomas was born on September 10, 1956 in Sigourney, IA, the daughter of David Allen and Ruth Marie McCombs Bouslog. She grew up on a farm near South English, graduated from English Valleys High School and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She was employed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Rheumatology Department from 1977 to September 1992. Paula was united in marriage to Michael Thomas on March 21, 1981 in the English River Church of the Brethren near South English. Paula served on the English Valleys School Board and the English Valleys Dollars For Scholars committee for many years. She also worked with a variety of organizations and businesses following her retirement from the University. Paula died on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 22 days. She is survived by her husband Michael Thomas and son Jeremy Thomas both of South English; siblings: Kathryn (William) Durbin of Parkersburg, IA; Karyl (Steve) Thomas of Oskaloosa, IA; Sherry (Daniel) Strohman of North English, IA; Sally (Charles) Davey of Indianola, IA; Kent (Christine) Bouslog of South English, IA; Kevin (Sue) Bouslog of South English, IA; Marci Bouslog of Omaha, NE; Melodie Bouslog of South English, IA; Kelly Bouslog of Centerville, IA; mother-in-law Marge Thomas of What Cheer, IA; brother-in-law Jim Thomas of What Cheer, IA; sister in-law Peggy (Alan) Stromberg of Marengo, IL and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Meri and Pamela Bouslog as well as her grandparents Jay and Zola McCombs and Paul and Mary Bouslog, uncles Bill Dennis, Merle Fishel, Wayne McCombs and father-in-law Dick Thomas. A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the English River Church of the Brethren near South English. Public visitation will be at the Powell Funeral Home in North English on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. A memorial fund has been established for Keokuk County Hospice.
