SIGOURNEY-Peter Paul Wehr, age 92, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Paul was born on December 13, 1920, in rural Sigourney, to Peter and Magdalena (Koch) Wehr and received his education in Plank # 9 country school. On August 29, 1944, he married Winifred Redlinger at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. The couple lived, farmed and raised their family on a farm northeast of Sigourney for 35 years before moving into Sigourney. Paul then worked 10 years for the Sigourney School District before retiring in 1989. Paul was active in the community; he was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a member of the Lions Club, where he received the distinguished Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, and Farm Bureau. He also delivered meals on wheels, was a 4-H leader and belonged to a square dance club. Paul was a humble, loving, generous man, living his Christian life every day and will be greatly missed by his family. Survivors include his wife of 69 years: Winifred; nine children: Marilyn (Allen) Platner of Marion, Don (Shirley) Wehr of Davenport, Dolores (Ken) Robertson of Gilbert, Arizona, Jerome (Soraya) Wehr of Grinnell, Vivian (Tom) Winkler of Indianola, Martha (Frank) Puckett of Zachary, Louisiana, Michael (Joy) Wehr of Sigourney, Denis (Lisa) Wehr of Moline, Illinois and Diana (Brian) Steiner of Marshalltown; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and sister: Cecilia Herman of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Marvin, great grandson: Zachary Platner; four brothers: Frank, Walter, Ambrose and Matthias and one sister: Catherine. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, where there will be a wake service at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in honor of Paul has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Paul and his family.
