HARPER-Paul Jaeger, age 72, of rural Harper, died Thursday, October 5, 2006, at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Paul was born November 28, 1933, in Harper, to Stephen and Nina (Lawson) Jaeger and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School. On November 28, 1953, he married Leolos "Lee" Weber at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957. He also served in the Army Reserves for six years. A lifelong resident of the Harper community, Paul farmed until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council. Paul also was a member of Farm Bureau and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed NASCAR, coyote and deer hunting, helping others, being a substitute rural mail carrier for several years and working at all Knights of Columbus activities. Survivors include his wife: Lee Jaeger of Harper; one son: Patrick Jaeger of Forsyth, Missouri; two grandchildren: Bobbi Jo and Jared Jaeger and three sisters: Dolores Paetzold of Winter Haven, Florida, Mary Finders and husband Keith of Harper and Patricia Havel and husband Bob of Washington; brother-in-law: Richard Weber and special friend: Jeanette Besser. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law: Kenneth Paetzold. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2006, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper with Revs. Marty Goetz and Robert McAleer officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-St. Elizabeth Cemetery with military rites by Keota V.F.W. Post #4716. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Parish or the Knights of Columbus. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
