Paul Howard Lyon

Paul Howard Lyon, 83, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home in Mt. Pleasant. According to his wishes his body has been cremated and no services will be held. The Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City to be used for the comfort and welfare of veterans. On-line condolences may be left at www.olsonpowell.com.Born, October 24, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant, Paul was the son of Peter and Chleo (Messer) Lyon. He attended Mt. Pleasant Schools. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy at Great Lakes, IL and served for thirteen years. On August 8, 1955, Paul married Marcena M. Ackles in Iowa City, IA. Paul worked a total of 47 years for Pipefitter Local 125 of Burlington, IA and Local 216 of Cedar Rapids, IA. He also belonged to the Navy's Fleet Reserve Association. When the children were small they spent weekends camping at Oakland Mills and other camp grounds. After the children left home, Paul and Marcena did a lot of traveling in the camper throughout the United States. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark E. (Tami) Lyon and Jeff E. (Debra) Lyon both of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one brother, Glen (Dorothy) Lyon of Voluntown, CT; five grandchildren, Reverend Father Dustin (Nicki) Lyon of Dubuque, IA, Jaime Lyon of Cedar Falls, IA, Blake Lyon of Antioch, IL, Mindy (Zach Byrum) Lyon of Milliken, CO, and Nick Lyon of Des Moines, IA; and two step-grandchildren, Josh Ellenberg and Kathryn Ellenberg, both of Ankeny, IA. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Joe, Henry, Fred, and Dale Lyon.
