Williamsburg- Paul George Trimpe was born July 30, 1917 on the farm south of Homestead, Iowa, the son of Otto Mathias & Rosina Anna (Von Ahsen) Trimpe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, near Homestead. Paul attended St. John's Lutheran School. After graduating, he worked as a farmhand for neighbors and friends.
Paul was united in marriage to Mildred Dorothea Jahlas at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Victor, on April 26, 1943 in a double ceremony with his brother, Arnold, and Mildred's twin, Marie. Paul served in the Army from August 18, 1942 to December 29, 1945. He was in the European Theater, Rhineland and Central European (Germany). Among some of the medals he earned was a marksman M-1 and machine gun. He achieved the rank of Corporal.
Paul and brother, Arnold, farmed together on a farm five miles west of Williamsburg from 1943 -1960. Then Paul moved his family to Williamsburg and went to work at Amana Refrigeration. He also trimmed trees on the side and worked at Home Oil gas station. Paul lived in his home until January 2014 when he moved to Highland Ridge Assisted Living.
Paul has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 76 years and was St. Paul's oldest male member. He served as an elder and participated in various other church activities. He enjoyed reading the paper, doing cross-word puzzles, playing Solitaire, and spending time with family. Paul died on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, at the age of 100 years.
He is survived by his son Allen (Carol) Trimpe of Shawnee, KS; two daughters Sharon (Warren) Pillard of Keokuk and Shirley (Rev. Thomas) Brazinsky of Baroda, MI; seven grandchildren Lisa (David) Periolat of Chicago, IL, Chris (Amber) Trimpe of Shawnee, KS, Marci (David) Flint of Indianapolis, IN, Stephanie (Brent) Range of College Park, MD, Carrie (Greg) Helmers of Coopersville, MI, Anne (Eric) Glessner of St. Louis, MO and Tim (Erin) Brazinsky of Grand Rapids, MI; 8 great grandchildren Sydney Periolat, Portland & Lila Range, Jonah & Thaddeus Glessner and Emma, Olivia & Anna Helmers; three sisters: Ida Strunk of Williamsburg, Viola Lemon of Davenport and Luella Barnes of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife, three brothers: Arnold Trimpe, Alfred Trimpe and Raymond Trimpe and four sisters: Ruth Koehn, Edna Wetjen, Lorena Moennich and Esther Huedepohl.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Tom Ogilvie will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A VFW service will be held at 7:00 p.m.. Memorials may be given to Lutheran Interparish School or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
