Paul E. Swartzentruber was born February 24, 1932 in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Enos and Lena (Bender) Swartzentruber. On December 25, 1954 he was united in marriage to Martha Mae Miller in Goshen, IN, Martha died in 1990. On May 30, 1992 Paul was united in marriage to Katie Chupp Stutzman in Goshen, IN. Paul has lived in the Kalona community where he farmed for 53 years before retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Sunnyside Mennonite Church, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. He lead devotions at Pleasantview Home in Kalona for many years, and traveled to Atmore, Alabama for 18 years helping with prison revival meetings. Paul died on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland at the age of 82 years.
Paul is survived by his wife Katie of Kalona; 7 children; Twila (Ken) Beachy of Kalona; Mark (Madonna) Swartzentruber of Riverside; Grace (Paul) Kurtz of Mechanicsburg, OH; Fern (Merle) Bontrager of Wellman; Michael (Melanie) Swartzentruber of Centerburg, OH; Doris (Duane) Petersheim of Lancaster, PA; Crystal (Phil) Eby of Ephrata, PA; 3 step children; Evelyn (Mike) Martin of Hayward, WI; Virgil (Dawn) Stutzman of Vandalia, MI; Linda (Roger) Martin of New Market, VA; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 21 step grandchildren; 32 step great grandchildren; a brother Eldon (Katie) Swartzentruber of Harrisonburg, VA; and 2 sisters Sadie (Mose) Mast of Spencer, OK; and Katie (Tobias) Yoder of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Martha; 2 sisters; Barbara Bontrager; Lovina Miller and a brother Chris Swartzentruber.
