Paul Edward Gingerich was born May 5, 1916, in Versailles, Missouri the son of Amos and Nannie (Yoder) Gingerich. He graduated from Hesston High School in 1936 and then attended Hesston College. On May 22, 1940 he was united in marriage to Vesta Troyer in Hesston, Kansas. They moved to Iowa where he farmed in Iowa and Johnson counties for 31 years. They returned to Kansas where he was maintenance supervisor at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas until his retirement. He has lived in Kalona since 2005. Paul was a member of the Hesston Mennonite Church, where he volunteered for many church activities. He also volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Services and the Etc Shop in Newton Kansas. He enjoyed working with his hands and fixing things. Paul died on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 98 years.
Paul is survived by his wife Vesta of Kalona; three sons Keith Gingerich (Mildred) of North English, Kenneth Gingerich (Noreen) of Iowa City, Roger Gingerich (Diane) of Aurora, Colorado, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two brothers Simon Gingerich of Goshen, Indiana, and Clayton Gingerich of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Linda Hughes, a granddaughter, three sisters Lois Bender, Charity Troyer, Eunice Histand, and four brothers Leroy, Fred, Truman and Orie.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Pastor Robert Smith and Pastor Margaret Richer Smith will officiate. The family will greet friends from 3:00 PM until service time on Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established for Mennonite Central Committee.
