Paul Douglas (Doug) Powell was born January 16, 1945 in Goshen, Indiana the son of Lewis & Rachel Byler Powell. When he was 18 months old the family moved to South English, Iowa to work in the family Powell Funeral Home and Hardware business.
Doug grew up in South English until his family moved to Keota in 1955. He graduated from Keota High School in 1963 and the University of Northern Iowa in 1967. He served in the National Guard. Doug was united in marriage to Terry J. Jungbluth in Washington, Iowa August 25,1973. They lived in Wellman most of their married life where Doug managed the Powell Furniture stores. After selling the Furniture stores, Doug traveled for 40 years as a sales representative for Chromcraft and several other furniture lines. They retired & moved to Montezuma, Iowa in 2015. He was a loyal and trusted member of the Horseshoe Gun Club for over 50 years. He had served on the Wellman City Council and the Mid-Prairie School Board. Doug enjoyed hunting at the marsh, watching the Hawkeyes, was an avid golfer (getting 6 holes in one), his greatest joy was being a proud grandpa to his grandchildren. Doug passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines from complications of a recent surgery at the age of 80 years.
Doug is survived by his wife T.J. of Montezuma; two sons, Aaron (Kim) Powell and Paul Powell all of Des Moines; a daughter, Taylor (Ari) Alberg of Portland, Oregon; 3 grandchildren, Nadia Powell and Morgynne Powell and Emmett Alberg; a brother, Jared (Jacque) Powell of Williamsburg, Iowa and 3 nieces and a nephew
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Nancy Adams and a niece Leslie.
Celebration of life service will be 10:30 am Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for the Montezuma Golf Course.
