KEOTA-Patsy (Pat) Jean Schechter Wray, age 73, of Keota, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Mapelewood Manor in Keota following a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Pat was born March 22, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to J. Ray and Anna (Rolston) Schechter. She grew up a farm girl in Worthington, Minnesota, where she graduated in 1954. Pat graduated from McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas in 1958, with a B.S. in Biology. She married Roland Wray on December 23, 1957 and they remained loving partners until her death. The couple lived in McPherson and Cunningham, Kansas, Ozark, Missouri, Lenox, Sidney, State Center, Exira, Richland and Keota, Iowa. Pat was an avid reader, gardener, knitter, quilter and traveler. She was an active member of the church wherever she lived. She was raised in the Church of the Brethren but attended the United Methodist Church most of her adult life. She took active leadership roles in whatever activities she participated, including United Methodist Women, S.E.R.V. and the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Survivors include her husband: Roland Wray of Keota; three children: Lori Krewson and husband Greg of Flower Mound, Texas, Tom Wray and wife Lori of Rocklin, California and Jean Yoder and husband Clark of Wellman; six grandchildren: Jenna and Jeff Krewson, Grady and Zack Wray and Gabe and Josh Yoder; one sister: Beverly Petefish of Sacramento, California and one brother: Orvis Schechter of Joshua, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009, at Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie with Rev. Dave Nolte officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the church. Memorials may be directed to your local library. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Pat and her family.
