Patricia L. "Pat" Gilbert, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, August 30, 2013, at the Pioneer Park Care Center in Lone Tree, IA. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3rd at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 4th at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick Moorman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Oakland Mills Community Church and Pioneer Park Care Center Activity Fund. Born July 28, 1923, in Burlington, IA, Patricia Louise, was the daughter of Raymond and Myrtle Louise (Timmerman) Metcalf. She was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. On December 10, 1943, she married Kenneth Gilbert in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1983. Prior to her marriage, Pat was a supervisor for the telephone company in Burlington. After she was married she moved to Mt. Pleasant. Pat worked alongside her husband on the family farm. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Pat had a great love for her family and enjoyed being with them. She liked to read, play cards, bake, and work word find puzzles. Active in her church and community, Pat attended church at Oakland Mills Community Church, where she was part of the Oakland Mills Ladies Aid. She was a member of Bethlehem Chapter No. 38 Order of the Eastern Star, Founders Chapter Iowa A of T.T.T., Henry County Nature Study, South Center Club and R.S.V.P of Mt. Pleasant. Pat was a member of Henry County Health Center Auxiliary and was often seen volunteering at the front desk or gift shop in the hospital. Pat is survived by two daughters, Sally Wheeler of Columbus Junction, IA, and Joni (Alan) Opheim of Iowa City, IA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Ashley Opheim, Britney Opheim, Nathan Opheim, Melissa (Lance) McKean, Cory Finke, Travis Finke, Nathan (Sarah) Wheeler, and Natalie (Scott) Dennler, along with eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
