Patricia Mayer

WILLIAMSBURG-Patricia S. Mayer, age 77, of Williamsburg, died Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the English Valley Care Center in North English.
Patricia was born August 30, 1940, in Polk County, Iowa, the daughter of Tony and Doris (Wilkinson) Polich. She graduated from Ankeny High School in 1958 and received her BA from Westmar College in 1963. On June 5, 1964, she married Garwood Mayer at Saylorville. Patricia taught one year at Marshall, Minnesota, one year at Bellvue, Minnesota and one year at Sheffield before teaching at Williamsburg for 37 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, where she served as deaconess, church secretary and Sunday School teacher. She was a participant in the Writer's Workshop at the University of Iowa and was named a Sally Mae National Teacher of the Year in 1988. Patricia enjoyed traveling with friends, doing short-term mission work in Romania five times and speaking about her mission trips to the 7th graders at Bible camp. She was also an excellent cook, being featured in the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
Survivors include her husband: Gar of Williamsburg; daughter: Tami (Anthony) Minnehan of Churdan; two sons: Curtis (Jamie) Mayer of Washington and Craig (Melissa) Mayer of Racine, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren: Brian (Marlene), Daniel (Rachel), Marissa, Charles and Katie Minnehan, Reece and Teague Mayer and Riley, Sydnie and Carlee Mayer; two great grandchildren: Jack and Charlotte Minnehan; sister: Sandy (John) Fausch of Knoxville and brother-in-law: Lannie Robbins of Sanford, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Connie Robbins.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, with Pastors Eric Nygren, Larry TenHaken and Dave Arnold officiating. Burial will be at Community Cemetery in rural Deep River. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established for East Iowa Bible Camp, Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church or Family Choice. Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg is caring for Patricia and her family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
