Patricia L. "Patty" Leonard, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center. Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2nd at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Bracht-Wagner and Rev. Jessica Richard officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Alzheimer's Association and National Cancer Institute for pancreatic cancer research. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born May 2, 1929, in Kirkville, Iowa, Patricia Louise was the daughter of Charles and Clara Reed Deitch. She attended Kirkville schools and graduated from Ottumwa High School. On October 24, 1948, she married Teddy Woodrow Leonard in Ottumwa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2005. While living in Ottumwa, Patty worked as a school secretary and was also employed by Northwestern Bell. In 1961 the couple moved to Mt. Pleasant where Patty worked for the Henry County Mental Health Institute and the Henry County Courthouse in the Recorder's Office. A member of First United Methodist Church, Patty was a member of UMW and served on the Administrative Board and Missions Committee. She was active in raising money for the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City and a member of TTT Chapter "DD" in which she coordinated the style show. She, along with her husband, Ted, worked at the food tent at Old Threshers for many years. Favorite hobbies included cooking and sewing. Survivors include two sons, Chris (Sharon) Leonard of Waterloo, IA, Joseph (Kathy) Leonard of Garland, TX; one daughter, Nancy (Dave) Leonard Duncan of Cedar Rapids, IA; and four grandchildren, Patrick Leonard, Stephen Duncan, Jessica (Duncan) Richard, and Christopher Leonard. Preceding Patty in death are her husband, Ted; her parents; a son, Stephen Leonard; one brother, Charles Deitch; and one sister, Genevieve Blake.
