Patrick E. Fountain, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a short illness. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, of Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 3, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Mike Scudder officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Public Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Faith Lutheran Church and Mt. Pleasant Athletic Boosters. The son of Howard I. and Ethyle Marie Gorman Fountain, Pat was born in Iowa City, IA on May 9, 1936. He was a 1954 graduate of Iowa City High School. He married Virginia Bain on June 1, 1958, in Iowa City, IA. The couple later divorced. On January 10, 1972, he married Barbara A. Burich in Kahoka, MO. She survives. Pat served in the Iowa National Guard for nine years. Pat had a Hiland Potato Chip truck route in Iowa City. He worked for General Pest Control in Iowa City and Mt. Pleasant. Pat moved to Mt. Pleasant in the fall of 1971. In 1974, he purchased Ruby Cleaners in Mt. Pleasant, and in the late 1970s, purchased Smitty's Cleaners, renaming the combined business, Iris City Cleaners. Pat was a licensed umpire for the state of Iowa, and umpired football, softball, and baseball. Attending his children and grandchildren's activities was Pat's favorite pastime. He coached all five of his children in softball or baseball and was a president of the Mt. Pleasant Little League Association. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, where he was an elder and served on several committees. He was a Mt. Pleasant volunteer fireman, enjoyed golf, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He liked playing Euchre on the computer and other computer games. Along with his wife Barb of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Pat is survived by one daughter, Debi and her husband John Shalla of Riverside, IA; four sons, Kevin Fountain of Iowa City, IA, David Fountain of Iowa City, IA, Todd Fountain and his wife Dee of St. Peter's MO, and Chad Fountain of Washington, IA; his mother Ethyle Fountain of Iowa City; three sisters, Phyllis and her husband Steve Black of Iowa City, IA, Charlene and her husband Al Rozinek of West Branch, IA, and Glennys O'Brien of Juneau, AK; one brother, Mike Fountain and his wife Cathy of Iowa City, IA; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Fountain of Alamo, TX. Pat is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher, Tiffany, Ashlee, Travis, Trenton, Patrick, Jared, and Emma. Pat was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Tom Fountain; a sister, Marlene Teymer, and a nephew, Kevin O'Brien.
