Orlando Donald Hall was born on July 19, 1913 near Brooklyn, IA the son of Fred and Anne Given Hall. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1931. Don was united in marriage to Phyllis Janet Torrance on June 2, 1936 in Rock Island, Il. They made their home in Brooklyn, and lived briefly in Illinois and Missouri before coming to North English, IA. During the World War II years, Don worked in an ammunitions plant in Aurora, Il. Don owned and operated O.D. Hall Appliance in North English for many years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a former member of the North English Fire Department. Phyllis preceded him in death in March 2005. Don died following a brief illness on Monday, November 21, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Don lived 92 years 4 months and 2 days. He is survived by sons: Dick Hall of North English; Don (Lanny) Hall & his wife Lynda of Chicago, IL and a sister Ruth Ann Lohman of Bullhead City, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dale Hall, and wife Phyllis. A memorial fund has been established for the North English United Methodist Church.
