Wellman Dateline Oriet Elizabeth. Cortum, age 88, died following a brief illness on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Parkview Home in Wayland, IA. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, August 16, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Oriet was born on May 24, 1916,in Huxley, IA the daughter of Erick and Marta Larson Tesdall. She attended and graduated form Ames High School in 1933. Oriet was united in marriage to Raymond Lloyd Cortum in Albert Lea, MN on April 12, 1952. They farmed near Wellman until 1988 when they moved to Washington. Oriet worked at Shenk's Nursing Home and later Parkview Manor in Wellman. They moved to Wayland in 1998. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, gardening and cooking. Oriet became a resident of Parkview Manor 3 years ago. She lived 88 years, 2 months and 18 days. Oriet is survived by 2 sons: John Cortum (Rita) of Mediapolis, IA and William Cortum (Colette) of Kalona; 6 grandchildren: Kevin, Sean, Ryan, B.J., Robert & Catherine; 7 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Velma Cortum of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister Alice Severson.
