Opal J. Klicker, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of the Selma and Troy communities, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening and for one hour prior to the funeral service the next day. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Troy, IA. Memorials have been established to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the family for a bench to be placed in one of the Mt. Pleasant parks. Born June 28, 1925 near Selma, IA, Opal June was the daughter of Evert and Julia Batterson Wilburn. She graduated from Selma High School. On June 28, 1942, she married Lawrence C. Klicker in Lancaster, MO. He preceded her in death, 25 years ago, on June 4, 1983. A homemaker, Opal helped her husband on their farm near Troy. She was a cook for the Davis County School District for several years. After moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1986, Opal was a caregiver for shut-ins. She attended Oakland Mills Community Church. Opal believed family was important and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a large garden, enjoyed growing flowers, and loved making quilts. While living near Troy, Opal was a member of the Help Your Neighbor Club for many years. Mrs. Klicker is survived by one son, Max (Elizabeth) Klicker of Salem, OR; two daughters, Shirley Luko of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Connie (Bill) Pearce of Milan, IL; one brother Jay (Margaurette) Wilburn of Bloomfield, IA; and one sister, Helen (Bob) Spees of St. Charles, MO. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Bill Luko, Brenda Groves, Gina Rooks, Sandy Pearce, Cathy Grall, and Jon Klicker; and thirteen great grandchildren, Austin and Evan Klicker, Amanda, Kelsey, Tyler, Ashlee and Haley Luko, Kody Barton, Gracie Rooks, Aleshya Gardner, Brittany Reeck, Maison Davis, and Kristi Grall. Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Klicker was preceded in death by a sister, Keo Baker, and a sister in infancy.
