Opal was born July 5, 1919 on her families farm in Iowa County, to Edd and Laura Denison Wade. She attended Green Valley Country School, where she excelled in spelling. Recess is where she learned to crochet and embroidery under the guidance of her teacher. She learned the value of hard work early.
On March 30, 1940 she was united in marriage to Ralph Glider in Marengo, Iowa. Together she and Ralph began their lifelong love of farming.
Opal is survived by her loving family; daughters and sons-in-law: Betty and Duane Munson of Cedar Rapids, Jean and Bob Bisinger of Marion, Shirley and Steve Knight of Solon, Kathy and Charles Ford of Lincoln, Missouri, Sonja and Charles Wald of Greenwood, Missouri, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, two sisters-in-law Hazel Kelley and Doris Glider, nieces and nephews. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph of 72 years, four sisters, one brother; a great grandson Niklas Lars Hybel and grandson-in-law Lars Hybel.
The love, of Opal's life, was her husband, Ralph. Her great joy was spending time with and caring for her family. She worked hard and enjoyed farm life for 42 years. After retiring from their farm, they spent 16 years at their lake home in the Ozarks. Later they moved to Wellman and spent 8 years renewing treasured friendships. They decided to move closer to family and moved to the Cedar Rapids area. She enjoyed baking and making her famous noodles, fishing, playing cards, gardening, sewing, reading, dancing with Ralph and traveling to 49 states. Opal was very giving and found strength in faith and family. She inspired and encouraged her family by her continuing presence and determination. Opal had a gracious smile and yet quiet nature and was happiest surrounded by her family. She was proud of what she and Ralph had worked to create that provided for their family. She was a humble woman and her heart and hands served many. Her influence motivated others to be kind and loving individuals. She will be forever honored by the love of her family. As Opal's earthly life has ended her heavenly journey with Ralph has begun. May they dance forever together.
Thank You to Pastor Moody Colorado, and to the Hiawatha Care Center and staff.
