Olen L. Schrock was born September 11, 1925 in Bremen, IN to Levi and Sarah (Yoder) Schrock. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Graber on December 2, 1948 in Indiana. They moved to the Kalona area in 1956. Olen was a dairy farmer for most of his life until his retirement in 1996. He was baptized in his youth and was a member of Sharon Bethel Church where he was a member until death.
Olen enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms, carpentry and woodworking in his shop. For more than 30 years he volunteered for local prison ministries, attending their chapel services and holding Bible studies. He also graded Bible study courses for Gospel Echoes for many years. He was a member of the Washington Chapter of Gideon's International. In his youth he traveled to Europe on two voyages with the Seagoing Cowboys to deliver cattle and horses to war torn countries after World War II. Olen died Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 91 years.
Survivors include his wife Mary of Kalona, 10 children; Wayne (Norma) Schrock of Millersburg, IN; P.R. (Sherry) Schrock of Wellman; John (Diane) Schrock of Wellman; Carl (Julie) Schrock of Syracuse, IN; Lawrence (Linda) Schrock of Syracuse, IN; Jay (Lori) Schrock of Kalona; Ezra (Dawn) Schrock of Wellman; Ruth (Lawrence) Schlabach of Kalona; Rachel (Mike) Wagler of Sigourney; Rosemary (Mark) Slabaugh of Kalona; 31 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters; Sylvia Ropp and Alma (Daniel) Nisly; a brother Leo (Nedra) Schrock, 2 sisters-in-law Pauline Schrock and Fannie Schrock, and a brother-in-law Perry Miller. Olen was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters; Mary Miller and Judy Miller, 3 brothers; Perry, Elmer, and Edwin, and 2 brothers-in-law Elmer Ropp and Rudy Miller.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 21. 2016 at Fairview Mennonite Church rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Fairview Mennonite Church from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM where the family will greet friends from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice and Gideon International. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Olen and his family.
