Norman L. "Norm" Walter, 77 of Winfield, IA, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 14th at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, after which the family will receive friends until 6:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, August 15th, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with The Reverends Brian Shepley and Ed Fitzpatrick,celebrants. Interment will be in the Winfield - Scott Township Cemetery. Memorials have been established to HCI Care Services and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in his memory. On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born February 14, 1939, in Fordyce, NE, Norman Lavern was the son of Leonard and Veronica Hochstein Walter. He was a 1957 graduate of Wynot High School in Wynot, NE. After high school Norm enlisted in the United States Army. Following his two-year enlistment, he attended Milford Trade School in Milford, NE. On September 7, 1963, he married Janice Hochstein at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bow Valley, NE.Always a builder, Norm started his own construction business and lived in Coleridge, NE for nine years. For the next several years, Norm moved his family many places as he built nursing homes for communities. In 1974, they moved to Winfield, IA, where he resided until his death. For the last twenty years of his career, Norm worked for Merit Construction, retiring in 2000. Norm was a master woodworker and craftsman. A member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, he built multiple wood products for the church auction. Along with his wife, Janice, of 52 years, Norm is also survived by two sons, Brian Walter of Winfield, IA, and Dean (Sharla Winter) Walter of Winfield, IA; two daughters, Kim (Thomas) Lampe of Red Wing, MN, and Michelle (Brian) WalterBlodgett of Washington, IA; and two brothers, Arlan Walter of Hartington, NE, and Kenneth Walter of Ringold, GA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Caleb, Danielle, Drew, Kelcey, Jordan, Paige, Gavin, and Aaron and 5 great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Elyse, Talon, Graham, and Drake. Preceding Norm in death were his parents, and a grandson, Halen Lampe.
