Norma L. Brake

Norma L. Brake, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA passed away Tuesday, September 01, 2015 at Arbor Court. A visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8th at the Memorial Chapel with Rev. Raymond Brake officiating. Interment will be at the Forest Home Cemetery. Born January 24, 1929 in Spickard, MO, Norma was the daughter of Forrest Dean and Edith Clemens. She graduated from a Half Rock Country School in Spickard, MO in 1947. On June 16, 1956, she married Raymond M. Brake in Des Moines, IA. In her early years, Norma worked as a live musician for WHO Radio Station in Des Moines. While living in Mt. Pleasant, she was the manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken from where she retired in 1994. With music as a passion, Norma loved to volunteer performing with her guitar and husband in the local area. She loved spending time with her grandkids and cats and dogs. She loved to cook and enjoyed going on picnics to the park. Survivors include her husband; five children, Raymond (Karen) Brake of Little Chute, WI, Gary (Mel) Brake, Regina Sanchez, Harley (Trisha Crabtree) Brake all of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Larry (Connie) Brake of North Port, FL; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a niece. Preceding Norma in death were her parents; 2 sisters, Irma and Cecil Ann; and 2 grandchildren. A memorial has been established to the Salem Old Settlers Entertainment, Midwest Old Threshers Entertainment and Arbor Court Activity Fund.
