Norma Elaine Rodgers was born on December 15, 1931, on a farm in English Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Sylvester and Vera Keil Herdlicka. She grew up in the rural North English and Millersburg communities and graduated from Millersburg High School. Norma married Charles Douglas Rodgers on August 9, 1953, at the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church near North English. Norma worked 8 years as a cook at the Landmark Restaurant and at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in housekeeping for 3 years retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in the WMC as project chairman. Norma died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the English Valley Care Center in North English where she had been a resident since April 2010. She is survived by three sons: Charles (Carolyn) Rodgers of Williamsburg, IA; Jonathan (Mindy) Rodgers of Raytown, MO; Phillip (Kristy) Rodgers of Millersburg, IA; one daughter Susan McCleary Bain (Steve) of Cedar Rapids, IA; 10 grandchildren: Chelsey (Mark) Kolpin and Colin Rodgers, Jon-Erick (Megan), Matt (Victoria), and Alaina Rodgers, Christin, Meagan, and Tiffany Rodgers, Trenton and Taryn McCleary; 5 great grandchildren: Gregory, Cole and Ily McCleary, Bryce Kolpin and Hunter Rodgers; and a sister Marilyn (Ray) Johnson of Tipp City, OH; sisters-in-law Opal Faas of Cedar Rapids, IA and Shirley Herdlicka of North English, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter Linda Rodgers, son-in-law Greg McCleary, an infant brother, and brothers Robert, Gene and Russell Herdlicka. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English, with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery.
