KEOTA-Norma Nadine Baumert, age 71, of Keota, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at the Sigourney Care Center in Sigourney, Iowa, following a courageous battle with cancer. Norma was born June 19, 1933, at home in Keota, the daughter of Floyd and Pearl (Brock) Baumert. She was a graduate of Keota High School and a member of the Keota Christian Church. She worked as a nursemaid for numerous families in the Fairfield and Keota areas for many years. She was a member of the Keota Ed Carris Womens Relief Corps No. 221 for twenty years and has been a member-at-large of the Indoor Sports Club, an organization of people with physical disabilities, for 47 years. She enjoyed genealogy and was considered the family historian, keeping records on the Brock and Baumert families. She also enjoyed checkers, cards, crossword puzzles, bird-watching and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include five sisters: Dorothy Dorsey of Sigourney, Marilyn Van Fleet of North English, Darlene Streets of Gladbrook, Margaret Burk of Bucklin, Missouri and Loretta Streigle of Sigourney; six brothers: Donald Baumert of Burlington, Harry Baumert of Sigourney, Glen Baumert of Iowa City, Dennis Baumert of Keota, Larry Baumert of Marion and Gene Baumert of Keota; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews, as well as an extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father: Floyd in 1964; mother: Pearl in 1990 and three brothers: Paul in 1979, Howard in 1988 and Duane in 2000. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Rev. Frances Baumert and Rev. Jim Bringman officiating. Interment will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 5, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Keokuk County, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the family. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
