HARPER-Norbert J. Weber, age 93, of Keota, formerly of Harper, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Maplewood Manor in Keota, following a lengthy illness. Norbert was born September 26, 1915, in Hudson, Iowa, to John B. and Caecilia (Peiffer) Weber and attended Clear Creek School. He then worked for W.C. Gretter in Harper. Norbert joined the United States Navy in 1940, where he served on the USS Mississippi and USS Renville during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. In November of 1948, Norbert married Helen Steinhauer in Climbing Hill, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed in rural Harper, where they also owned and operated Weber Steak House until 1985. Norbert became a resident of Maplewood Manor in Keota in 2002. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Isaac Walton League and Keota V.F.W. Post # 4716 and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include four brothers: Wilfrid Weber of Chesapeake, Virginia, Paul Weber of Keota, Isidore "Doc" Weber of Kalona and J. Anthony Weber of Washington; three sisters: Rita Vogel of Keota, Martha Kleinmeyer of Iowa City and Celeste Woltering of Keota; many nieces and nephews and dear friend: Venita Stull of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Helen in 1985; sister: Bernadine Conklin; five brothers: Cletus, Clare, Luke, Edward and Mark; several nieces and nephews. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Clear Creek Township. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 5:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County or St. Mary Catholic Church. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
