Nora "Gracie" Scarff

Nora Gracie Scarff, 60, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, November 25, 2010, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The family will receive friends from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 29th at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Sue Ann Cubbage officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Nebraska Humane Society. Born September 2, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Nora Grace "Gracie" was the daughter of Richard Lynn and Lenora Muriel (Marshall) Scarff. She was a 1968 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Following graduation, she enrolled in the Patricia Stevens Finishing School in Omaha, NE. After completing her college education, Gracie worked for the City of Omaha. Later she began a long career as the executive secretary for the 911 System for Douglas County, in Omaha. She retired from that office in 2002, following a 25 year career with the organization. After her retirement, she moved back to Mt. Pleasant and has resided there ever since. Gracie was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, and a member of the Retired Employees Association of Douglas County. Gracie had a great love for animals, particularly her dog, Peke. She was a frequent visitor to the area zoos and was an avid supporter of the Nebraska Humane Society. Gracie is survived by her sister, Vicky Scarff of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a nephew, Tony (April) Vargas of Mt. Pleasant, SC; an uncle, Robert (Ada) Scarff of Omaha, NE; two aunts, Cora (Glenn) Glover of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Sharon (Lyle) Hamman Sedalia, CO. Also surviving are numerous cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents; and two sisters, Treva Lynn Scarff and Nancy Gail Scarff.
