SIGOURNEY-Noel A. Kragness, age 69, of Sigourney, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, following a courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy. Noel was born August 9, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Oscar and Hazel (Criswell) Kragness. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1954 and the University of South Dakota in 1958 with a B.S. degree in Engineering. In June of 1958 he married Marilyn Randolph in Vermillion, South Dakota. To this union three children were born: David, Brian and Donna. Noel worked as an engineer at Murray Iron Works in Burlington, Iowa for eight years. On January 30, 1965, he married Martha Perkins in Bussey, Iowa. His family moved back to the Sioux City area in 1966 where Noel earned his teaching certificate at Morningside College. He then taught Chemistry, Physics, Math and Senior Seminar at Eastwood High School in Correctionville, Iowa for 25 years before retiring due to his health. He and Marty moved to Sigourney in 1998. Noel was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and was a man of great intelligence who had many interests, including hunting and fretwork. He also had a unique sense of humor. Survivors include his wife: Marty Kragness of Sigourney; three children: David Kragness of Omaha, Nebraska, Brian Kragness and wife Sara of Vancouver, Washington and Donna Kehoe and husband Joe of Birchwood, Wisconsin and two grandchildren: Bryce and Sabrina Kragness. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife: Marilyn and daughter-in-law: Tamara Kragness. A time of sharing will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Vermillion Cemetery in Vermillion, South Dakota. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to the Gideons. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
