Kalona- Nina Mae Miller, age 86 of Kalona, died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona, Iowa.
Nina Mae (Gingerich) Miller was born on November 23, 1928, in rural Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Daniel G. and Fannie L (Jantzi) Gingerich. She attended East Lincoln country school and later graduated from LaJunta, Colorado, Licensed Practical School of Nursing. Nina accepted the Lord as her Savior at age 13 and was baptized by Elmer Swartzendruber. She made a new commitment to the Lord and accepted the call to serve the Lord in Minnesota for a number of years. Nina had attended several terms at Berlin, Ohio, Bible School and Rosedale Bible Institute in Ohio, where she served as Dean of Women two terms. Nina worked at Mercy Hospital for 4 years and then as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Mercy Hospital and the University of Iowa Hospital for 27 years retiring in January, 1995.

On March 29, 1986, Nina was married to Ora W. Miller by John L. Hershberger. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1988. Surviving are 5 step-children: Mary (Merle) Hochstedler of Goshen, Indiana; Eileen (Douglas) Daniels of Sioux City, Iowa; Linda (Arnold) Shetler of Plain City, Ohio; Rosetta (Leonard) Shetler of Goshen, Indiana; Leora (Robert) Troyer of Dalton, Ohio; a step daughter-in-law Sandra Miller of Kalona, Iowa, 18 step grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, two sisters: Alice (J. Wesley-deceased) Hochstedler of Kalona, Iowa and Ella June (Eldon) Miller of Clayhole (near Rowdy), Kentucky; 5 sisters-in-law: Clara Gingerich of Iowa City, Iowa, Ada Gingerich of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ruby (Manass-deceased) Miller, Ida (Marion-deceased) Mullet and Marjorie (Ervin-deceased) Chupp and a brother-in-law Elijah (Susan) Miller, 40 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers: George, Leslie (Mary), Alvin (Lydia), Verton (Lydia) and Ivo Gingerich, mother-in-law Lizzie Miller, two step sons: Norman (Infant) and Merle A. Miller, 2 nephews Kenneth Gingerich & Merlin Gingerich, a niece Myrna Martin, and a sister-in-law: Bernice Miller.

Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Fairview Mennonite Church in Kalona. Pastors Perry Miller, John Hershberger & Leon Stutzman will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 PM on Sunday, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
