Neomi Norine Matthes

North English- Neomi Norine Gronewold Williams Matthes, was born September 29, 1933, near Donahue, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Fredrick & Norma Kate (Bluedorn) Gronewold. She attended Buena Vista in Clinton County and Tipton High School. Neomi has resided in the North English Community since 1971. She worked in the laundry and dietary departments at the University of Iowa Hospital. Neomi was a member of Hilltop Chapel in What Cheer, where she taught Sunday School. She was an avid artist enjoying painting, crafts, gardening and her grandchildren. She was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye Football fan, and also enjoyed following the St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings. Neomi died on Sunday, May 10, 2015, surrounded by her family, near North English, Iowa at the age of 81.

She is survived by her children: Rick (Nancy) Williams of Coralville, Candy (Joe) Hohenshell of Williamsburg, Scott (Jessie) Matthes of Riverside, Todd (Lanette) Matthes of North English, Callie (Lynn) Denison of North English; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; her siblings: ArloAnn Sieck of Center Point, Merlin (Doris) Gronewold of Waterville, Sharon Williams of Excelsior Springs, MO & Galen "Butch" (Jane) Gronewold of Urbandale. She was preceded by parents; a daughter Cindy Williams; four grandchildren: Gabe Williams, Casey Jo Passer and Matt & Cassie Johnson; and two brothers: Laurence & LaVerne Gronewold.

Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor John DeBoef will officiate. Burial will be in the English River Church of the Brethren Cemetery, near South English. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, North English.
