Neely Canott was born April 22, 1911 in Vienna, Georgia, the daughter of Morgan and Cora (Hook) Tharpe. On December 20, 1937 she was united in marriage to Roy T. Canott in Sarasota, Florida. They lived in Tampa, Florida until moving to Wellman in 1949. Neely worked for Maplecrest Farms from 1949 - 1968 then worked at the University of Iowa Hospital in the dietary department from 1969 - 1980. Neely died on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 101 years. Neely is survived by two sons - Jerry Canott of Conesville, LeRoy Canott of The Villages, Florida; a daughter - Cora Jane Fulk and husband Jim of The Villages, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Roy in December of 1988. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Rev. Beth Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Hospice Compassus.
