Keota-Nancy I. Powell Adams was born June 26, 1940 in Goshen, Indiana, the daughter of Lewis J. and Rachel Byler Powell. Her family moved to South English , Iowa in 1946. She attended South English grade school and attended North English High School for 1 year until her family moved to Keota in 1955. Nancy graduated from Keota High School in 1958. She attended Nurses Training at Mercy School of Nursing in Iowa City. Nancy was united in marriage to Richard Adams in March of 1959 in the Danforth Chapel in Iowa City. They lived in California and Colorado while Richard was serving as a medical doctor in the US Army. When he was discharged from the service they moved to Des Moines. They were later divorced. Nancy has lived in the Des Moines area ever since. Nancy was a church organist for a number of years, a realtor for Iowa Realty and an Account Executive for BMS and Marsden Services for more than 15 years. She has also volunteered for Social Service. Nancy has had a life long love for reading, music, art, horses and traveling. She loved her cats and was always looking out for and helping other people. Nancy died Friday, November 25, 2005 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines after a sudden illness at the age of 65 years. Nancy truly loved her family. She is survived by three daughters: Leslie Ann Renner of Norwalk, Jennifer (Todd) Brown and Allison (Kenny) Pryce all of Des Moines; two granddaughter: Abbigale and Hannah Swift of Des Moines; her mother Rachel Powell of Keota; two brothers: Jared (Jacque) Powell of Williamsburg and Doug (T.J.) Powell of Wellman; a number of nieces and nephews and a sister by friendship: Barbara Smith of Des Moines. She is preceded in death by her father Lewis and a son-in-law Kevin Renner. Celebration of life service will be 11:00 am Monday, November 28, 2005 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota. Pastor Shawn Powell will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. A general memorial has been established.
