North English- Nancy “Joey” Arlene Butler was born August 12, 1944, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Isaiah & Reita (McCallister) Butler. She graduated from Deep River Millersburg in 1962, where she was a cheerleader and speech contestant. She won 1st place at her speech contest, for her speech titled, “I Like Men.” Nancy grew up in Millersburg, lived in Iowa City, Colorado and North English, before returning to Iowa City. She was a retail associate for various businesses, such as Goodwill, Panera Bread and Uptown Bills. Nancy was a member of the Community Church in Millersburg. She enjoyed reading, cooking, writing, and always remembered everyone’s birthdays, by sending cards. She loved giving away her baked goods and giving to various charities. Nancy died on Friday, August 5, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 77 years.
She is survived by a brother Benjamin Butler of Kalona; three sisters Janet Anderson of North Glenn, CO, Lois Reed of Kalona and Mary Beth Mills of Lincoln, NE; four nephews; three nieces; and three special friends Lana James, Phyllis Kinzler and Joyce Rowe. She was preceded by her parents; a sister Melinda Clemmers and a niece Sheila Lang.
Celebration Of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will be in the Lutton Cemetery, rural North English. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 10:00 am until service time, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the East Iowa Bible Camp, Millersburg.
