Williamsburg, Iowa
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. November 15, 2007 at Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home
Williamsburg-Nadine Rogers Gardner was born September 9, 1920 to Lon and Ada (Shelton) Rogers on a farm southwest of Marengo. She attended Gehry School east of Millersburg through the eighth grade after which she worked for various families in the area. On December 31, 1938 Nadine was united in marriage to Lyall Gardner at the Ohio Methodist Church parsonage south of Ladora. Together they farmed west of Williamsburg until 1950. After moving to Williamsburg, Nadine worked many different jobs. In 1960 she began work as a secretary for DR. D.T. White, DVM and continued at this job until Doc's death in 1986. After retirement Nadine was able to enjoy her true love of design and color by helping many of her friends redecorate their homes and by planting many flower gardens. Unfortunately, vascular dementia robbed our mother of her ability to communicate effectively and to think clearly. She has been a resident of the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo since 2002. Nadine died Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home after several years of declining health at the age of 87 years. She is survived by two sons: Dale Gardner (Janet) of Cedar Rapids and Paul Gardner (Betty) of Coralville; a daughter: Jeanie Lehnst (John) of Williamsburg; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; three sisters: Elma 'Bill" Smith and Neoma Lacy (Lloyd) all of Williamsburg and Marie Faas (Mel) of Lincoln, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews. Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyall in 1985, her daughter, Rita Johnston in July 2007 and a sister Ethel Jennings. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Pastor James Parks will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Memorials are for the St. Paul United Methodist Church Building Fund. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Our family would like to thank the loving staff at Rose Haven Nursing Home for becoming Mom's family during the years she spent there.
