WELLMAN - Murval Jean Weidlein was born February 25, 1922, in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Nancy (Reber) Weidlein. She graduated from Wellman High School in 1939. Murval continued her education receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education from Parsons College and her Masters in Nutrition from the University of Iowa. Murval taught Home Economics in junior high and high schools at Ainsworth, Center Point, Independence, Dekalb, IL, and Racine, WI, over a span of 41 years, retiring in 1984. Murval was a Past President of the Wisconsin Home Economics Association and held local and state responsibilities with the American Association of University Women. While in Racine she played the french horn in the Racine Symphony Orchestra for many years.
In 1985 Murval returned to Wellman, where she was an active member of the Wellman Mennonite Church serving in many capacities. She served on the Wellman City Council, Wellman Area Foundation, and President of the Mid-Prairie Council of Churches. Murval was a member of the Wellman Garden Club, T.T.T., ALC Club, Mennonite Historical Society and the Wellman Historical Society. Murval died on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the age of 96 years.
Murval is survived a nephew, and 4 nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Harold Weidlein.
According to her wishes Murval has been cremated, and there will be no visitation or service. The Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is caring for Murval and her family.
