Williamsburg- Mitchell Edward Hanson was born October 5, 1977 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Elaine (Martin) Hanson. Mitch lost his ongoing battle with alcohol addiction, peacefully passing away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 46 years. He lives on through organ donation. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1996 and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for the last 19 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed all types of music, telling a good story or joke, golfing, playing pool, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and sharing laughs and beers with friends. Although he had his struggles, his heart was full of love and kindness. Never a harsh word was said or a grudge held. He was very proud of his family, and he bragged about them often. He always had a smile to greet people and a kind word to share.
He is survived by his mother, Elaine (Bob) Hanson-Mowry of Williamsburg; daughter, Kennady Rathjen of Marengo; siblings, Diana (Russ) Nichols of Williamsburg, Mark (Lisa) Hanson of Denville, NJ, Angie (Scott) Westcott of Williamsburg and Marty (Rachael) Hanson of Williamsburg, Significant Other Stacey Mumm, of Williamsburg, 9 nieces and nephews, and 17 great nieces and nephews; step siblings, Chris (Gail) Mowry, Catherine (Alfonzo) Perez, Angela (Scott) Daugherty and Mary (Don) Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnie Hanson Jr. grandparents, Arnie Sr and Veda Hanson and George and Clara Martin.
