North English- Mitchell Franklin Campbell was born January 8, 1929, in Mercer County, Missouri, the son of James E. and Alta (Baker) Campbell. He was a 1949 graduate of Newtown, High School, Newtown, Missouri, where he served as valedictorian. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1957, Mitchell married Emma Mae Sturtz at St. Martin's Church, Marengo, Iowa. They lived in Missouri before making their home near Homestead for many years, in 1999 they moved to North English. He was a hard worker and worked for various companies over the years including: ACSA office and farmed in Missouri; Wilson Packing and Rinderkencht Construction in Cedar Rapids; Amana Lumber Yard; the Amana Feed Mill for 30 years and Holden's/Monsanto in Williamsburg. Mitchell was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg and the Oxford American Legion. While living in Missouri he served on the School Board. He enjoyed singing silly songs to the grandchildren, spending time with his family and being outside with the animals. Mitchell died on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home in North English, after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his wife Emma Mae of North English; 3 sons: Duaine (Lori) Campbell of North English, Dayle (Kelli) Campbell of Hamilton, OH and Darrell (Emily) Campbell of Homestead; 6 grandchildren: Dustin Campbell, Lindsay (Stu) Plecker, Jacob & Alex Campbell, Carly & Cady Campbell; a great granddaughter Emma Lynn Plecker; and a sister Norma Jordan of Robins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson Nathan Campbell. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Rev. Gary Sears will officiate. Burial will be in the Garrison Cemetery, rural Garrison, Iowa at 2:30 PM. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4-7 PM, at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
