HARPER-Milo D. Miller, age 79, of Harper, died from complications of cancer Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Milo was born December 12, 1925, in Clayton County, Iowa, the son of John and Mildred (Wade) Miller. He attended St. Elizabeth School and graduated from high school in May of 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served on the U.S.S. Birmingham during WWII. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946. On August 28, 1947, he married JoAnne Rettler at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. The couple lived in Harper all their married lives where Milo worked for the Natural Gas Pipeline for 39 years as an Oiler Repairman, Main Operator and Utility Foreman. Milo loved camping, fishing, bowling and woodworking, and enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife: JoAnne of Harper; three children: Milo II and wife Dee of Savanna, Illinois, DiAnna Mears and husband Brad of Cedar Rapids and Beaver and wife Vickie of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; 10 grandchildren: Milo III and Troy Miller of Denver, Colorado, Brett Miller and wife Nicolle of Florida, Bradley Mears, Ashley Albert and husband Chad and Brittany Mears all of Cedar Rapids, Chief Petty Officer Kari Albers of Hawaii, Keli Albers of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, Suzanne Wilkens and Brian and Art Zemke of Tennessee; two great grandsons: Andrew John Stingley of Mt. Carroll, Illinois and Vaughn Miller of Florida; two sisters: Maxine Hammes of Sigourney and Betty Meier of Yuma, Arizona; two brothers: Bob of Cedar Rapids and Denny of Lakewood, Colorado; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper with Revs. Marty Goetz and Robert Harness officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where the family will be present from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 6:00p.m Monday at the Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for the University of Iowa Cancer Research. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
