Mildred Young

Mildred A.Young, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert David officiating. Visitation will be held that same day, prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Park Place Long Term Care Unit. The daughter of John E. and Clara M. (Vickstrom) Johnson, Mildred Adelaide was born August 12, 1914, in Henry County. She attended Mt. Pleasant Schools. On July 7, 1934, she married Robert L. Young in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1970. Mildred was a homemaker and marvelous cook. She was a member of the Old Threshers Auxiliary and had several of her recipes in their cookbooks. Mildred enjoyed fishing with her sister. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Women and the Women's Society of Christian Service at Prairie Gem Methodist Church. Mrs. Young is survived by a son, Richard (Mary Beth) Young of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and a daughter Karen (Dean) Messer of Mt. Pleasant, IA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Chris (Kathy) Young, Kenny Young, Laura (Duane) Burden, and Mark (Vicki) Messer; along with nine great-grandchildren, Clara Young and Philip Young, Danielle (Jeremy) Shipman, Leslie, Joshua, and Emily Burden, and Bryce, Lucas, and Kali Messer; and one great-great-grandson, Jackson Burden. Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Young was preceded in death by five brothers, Clarence, Edwin, Ralph, Melvin, and Albert Johnson; three sisters, Emily Johnson and Esther Garrett; and a sister in infancy.
