Mildred Unkrich

Mildred Unkrich, 94, of Olds, IA, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main Street, Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in Eicher Cemetery. A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church. Born July 3, 1919 in Washington County, Iowa, Mildred Marie was the daughter of John J. and Mary (Widmer) Rich. She attended Stringtown country school and graduated from Olds High School in 1937. On February 28, 1940, she married George H. Unkrich in the Eicher parsonage. He passed away in June 1991. For seventeen years Mildred worked in the office of Unkrich Feed and Grain. A devoted wife and mother, she was always a homemaker and helped with the family farm. Mildred was a member of Eicher Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School. Later she joined First United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a longtime member of Gideon's International. Mildred enjoyed spending time at the Winfield Senior Center where she often played cards. She enjoyed music and quilting. Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine (Bob) DeYarman of Toledo, OH and Faye (Royce) Miller of Mt. Pleasant, IA; five grandchildren, Mike (Jennifer) DeYarman, Steve (Tricia) DeYarman, Debbie (Jeff) Ptacek, David (Sarah) Miller and Doug (Lindsay) Miller; and twelve great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, George; her parents; a brother, Raymond Rich; and a sister, Helen Reeser.
