Mildred Neil, 100, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at her home at Sunnybrook Ashford Park. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the First Baptist Church with Pastors Regan Stoops and David Plooster officiating. The family will greet friends at a luncheon immediately after the service. Burial will follow in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Memorials have been established to First Baptist Church, Great River Hospice, and Mt. Pleasant Public Library. The Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant is in charge of arrangements. The daughter of Oscar and Lottie Munshower Swan, Mildred Lois, was born on September 12, 1909, in Winfield, IA. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On September 12, 1934, she married Dwight Neil at the Baptist parsonage in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1947. Following her husband's death, Mildred was kept busy raising her children, working, and taking care of a home. Throughout her entire life, spending time with her family was very important to her. She was a teacher for 32 years in Mt. Pleasant and surrounding communities. After completing her teaching career, Mrs. Neil worked for the Mt. Pleasant Public Library for ten years sharing her love of learning and reading with others. She retired from the library in 1985. Mildred was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Rebecca Circle and Bible Reader's Class, along with teaching Sunday school. She was a member of Mothers' Club. She enjoyed planting and tending flowers, picnics, reading, and playing Scrabble. Mrs. Neil is survived by two daughters, Kay (Marvin) Miller of Tipton, IA, and Linda (Joe) Kiene of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one brother, Lyle (Lola) Swan of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and a sister, Helen Prickett of Salem, IA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kim (Craig) Regennitter, Shelly (Ken) Lehmeier, Lisa (Dave) Russell, and Lonnie Lampe; six great-grandchildren, Larry and Robert Rochau, Keith and Craig Lehmeier, Brandon Russell and Alyssa Lampe. Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Neil was preceded in death by her brothers, Dallas, Dale, Glen, Bob, Rex, and Fletcher Swan; two sisters, Betty Mertens and Twyla Swan; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Rochau and Anthony Ross.
