Mildred Maxine Morris, was born on February 27, 1915, near Rose hill, Iowa, the daughter of William and Lola Summers Sprague. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1933. She married Arthur Deane Morris on February 22, 1939, in Des Moines. She was a past member of the Keota United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, the Keota School Board, and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed traveling, being a farmers wife, gardening, needlework, and yard work. Maxine also loved taking care of her chickens and sheep. Maxine died on Friday, December 17, 2010, at the Washington Care Center, Washington, at the age of 95 years. She is survived by her children: Rev. James (Mary Alice) Morris of Creston; Thomas Morris of Iowa City; Franklin Morris of Sigourney; and Mary Sue (Alfred) Arneson of Decorah; a son-in-law Thomas Andrews of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant daughter Judith, a daughter Beth Andrews, a sister Marguerite Brown, sister Hazel Jane Sprock and a brother Frank Sprague. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Keota. Rev. Dennis Hopes & Bob Morris will officiate. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Keota. A memorial has been established for the Washington Care Center, the Washington County Hospice and United Church of Faith.
