Mildred Marie Cox was born on July 3, 1912, near North English, IA, the daughter of Ernst T. and Nellie Owen Voss. She grew up near Parnell and attended school in Parnell and later in North English. Mildred lived a short time in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was united in marriage to Clifford Raymond Cox on January 5, 1931 in Rock Island, IL. She owned and operated Cox's Maid Rite and Cox's Restaurant in North English before working many years as a waitress and cashier at the Landmark Restaurant in Williamsburg, IA. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the United Methodist Church and UMW, and was a former member of the North English Community Club. Mildred became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in July 1998. She died there following a short illness on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 2 days. Mildred is survived by daughters Betty Humphrey (Bob) of North English, IA; Shirley Schladetzky (Bob) of Cedar Rapids, IA; a sister Bonnie Smith (Ralph) of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughter-in-laws; Marna Cox of League City, TX and Leigh Anne Cox of Fairbanks, AK; a sister-in-law Maxine Voss of North English, IA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband in October 1978, sons Clifford T. (Ted) Cox and Bill Cox, granddaughter Jennifer Cox and brother Owen Voss. Her body was cremated. A celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, IA. Pastor Ben Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in North English on Thursday, March 9, 2006 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. A general memorial fund has been established.
