Mildred Lucille Strasser was born on September 2, 1914, near Thornburg, IA, the daughter of Edward and Ethel Jordan Stahl. She graduated from Thornburg High School. Mildred worked as a domestic for several years in Des Moines and later in the Thornburg area. She was united in marriage to Marion L. Strasser on January 28, 1939 in Thornburg. They lived a short time in the Millersburg and Williamsburg communities before moving to the farm north of North English. Mildred was an active member of the North English United Methodist Church and served as president of the UMW for many years. She was a member of both the Millersburg and Williamsburg Garden Clubs. Her family always came first in her life. She helped with the farming and with the painting business. She also enjoyed sewing and craft work. Mildred became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in November 2003. Mildred died following a short illness at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on Monday, October 11, 2004. She lived 90 years, 1 month and 9 days. Mildred is survived by daughter Patricia Little of LeGrand, IA; son Roger Strasser (Annette) of Parnell, IA; and daughter Linda Huff (Harry) of Iowa City, IA; She raised granddaughter Terri Riegel (Michael) of North English, IA and graqndson James Fleming of North English, IA; and 10 other grandchildren; and17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion in June, 1997, a son-in-law Gerald Little, a brother Harold Stahl and a granddaughter Sonja Huff and a great grand daughter Cassandra Huff. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 14, 2004, at the North English United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg, IA. Friends may call at Powell Funeral Home in North English from 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, October, 13, 2004.
