Mike Myers

Michael "Mike" Elvin Myers, 58, of New London, IA, died Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A visitation will be held, Thursday, January 15, 2015, from 12 noon to 7 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 4-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 16th at the First United Methodist Church with Pastors Deb Stowers and David Plooster officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Mt. Pleasant Athletic Booster Club and Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association. Born May 12, 1956 in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Michael Elvin was the son of Elvin and Anna Miller Myers. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1974. For 32 years Mike worked at Goodyear and Veyance Technologies. He initially worked in production and later in the shipping department. He was a partner in the Myers family farm. While in high school, Mike played football. An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed bass fishing, four wheeling, and motorcycling. Bird watching and photography were favorite pastimes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and nieces and nephews. He spent many hours socializing at the Garretson farm. Survivors include his parents, Elvin and Anna Myers of New London, IA; three brothers, Bill (Cindy) Myers of New London, IA, Dick (Cheryl) Myers of Salem, IA, and Howard Myers of New London, IA; a sister, Sheryl (Mike) Dorn of Mt. Pleasant, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; and sister-in-law, Deb Myers.
