Michael "Mickey" Kamp, 82, formerly of Ft. Madison, IA, passed away, Monday, August 11, 2014, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield, IA. There will be no visitation. A graveside service with Military Rites will begin at 10 a.m., on Friday, August 15, 2014, at Oakland Cemetery Soldiers Circle in Ft. Madison, IA. A memorial has been established to Sunrise Terrace Care Center. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born March 10, 1932, in Ft. Madison, IA, Mickey was the son of William J. and Katherine (Bohenkamp) Kamp. He graduated from Ft. Madison High School. He honorably served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. On December 31, 1960, he married Rita Darlene Vantiger in West Point, IA at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She preceded him in death in December 2000. A resident of Ft. Madison most of his life, he moved to be near his daughter the last 14 years. Mickey began his working career as a locomotive fireman on the Santa Fe Railroad. He ended his 38 year career with the railroad as a locomotive engineer for the Illinois Division of the A.T. S.F. Railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. An avid outdoorsman, Mickey loved to hunt and fish. He was a very good baseball player in his youth. He forever remained a loyal Cubs fan. He grew up in the Catholic faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include a daughter, Sheila (Garry) Allender of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, Ronnie Kamp of Brooklyn, IA; two brothers, Jerry (Sherilyn) Kamp and Patrick (Sharon) Kamp both of Ft. Madison, IA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; four sisters, Marjorie Hippe, Teresa Sinclair, Georgina Frantz and a sister in infancy; three brothers, Jerome, Ralph and William Kamp.
