Mervin (Pat) Patrick Osweiler, age 87, of North English and formerly of Marengo, died following an extended illness on Friday, April 13, 2007 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English at 10:30 AM on Monday, April15, 2007 with the Rev. Pat Lumsden officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Little Creek Cemetery east of North English. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7PM with a Wake Service being held at 7 PM on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Mervin (Pat) Osweiler was born on January 30, 1920, near Harper, IA, the son of John and Mae Webb Osweiler. He attended Fairview Country School near Kinross. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Pat was a Allis Chalmers dealer and mechanic for many years in South English, North English and Marengo. He married Helen Kimm and they made their home in Marengo. She preceded him in death in 1986. Pat has lived in North English the past 8 years. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, fishing and cooking. He lived 87 years, 2 months and 14 days. Pat is survived by 2 brothers: Robert Osweiler of North English, IA; Benny Osweiler of Carlisle, IA; 3 sisters: Marjorie Clarahan of Harper, IA; Imogene Steele of Deep River, IA; and Donna Daub of Kankakee, IL. Also surviving are number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward, Paul, Daniel & Joseph Osweiler, and an infant sister Marcella Osweiler.
