Kalona- Merle Arden Miller was born January 23, 1950 in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Ora and Fannie (Beachy) Miller. He attended Fairview and Mid-Prairie Schools. Merle was united in marriage to Sandra Koenes on June 14, 1975 in Clinton, Iowa. He was a life long farmer. Merle enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He was a active member of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church and the Pork Producers. Merle died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in an accident west of Kalona at the age of 63 years. He is survived by his wife Sandy of Kalona; two daughters: Kim (Eduardo) Vega of Cedar Rapids and Shelly Miller of Midland, TX; five sisters: Mary (Merle) Hochstedler of Istanbul, Turkey, Eileen (Doug) Daniels of Sioux City, Linda (Arnold) Shetler of Plain City, OH, Rosetta (Leonard) Shetler of Goshen, IN and Leora (Robert) Troyer of Dalton, OH; his stepmother: Nina Miller of Kalona. Merle was preceded in death by his father, mother and a brother, Norman. Celebration of Life Service will be 1:30 pm on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church near Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson and Pastor Steve Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 1:00 to 7:00 pm at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Memorial fund has been established for the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.
