North English Maxine Hatter Smith Wade, age 102 , died Friday, May 16, 2014, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. Rev. Michelle Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be at Powell Funeral Home, North English on Tuesday, from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the Powell Funeral Home. A Memorial fund has been established for North English United Methodist Church or the Senior Dinning Center, North English. Maxine Ruth Wade was born in North English on June 22, 1911, a daughter of Murrell Knight and Rose Carolina Baure Hatter. She lived in North English all of her life. She graduated from North English High School in 1930 and Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines in 1932. Maxine worked at Mr. Off's Law Firm for over 50 years. On November 24, 1934 Maxine married George M. Smith. Together they had one son, George Frederick Smith. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1984. George died on March 24, 1994. On September 6, 1995, Maxine married Leo F. Wade in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1997. Maxine was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and Rebekkah Lodge and was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed vacationing in Colorado and following Iowa Hawkeye Football with George. Maxine is survived by her son George Frederick (Debbra) Smith of Winthrop, IA; two grandsons: Andrew (Alison) Smith and Chad Smith all of Cedar Rapids, IA; a brother Robert Hatter of Ottawa, IL. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and a sister Helen Peterson.
