Conroy-Lois Maxine Ahrens was born April 12, 1917 in Conroy, Iowa, the daughter of Jule and Blanche (Olson) Olson. She graduated from Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy. Maxine was united in marriage to Elmer "Pete" Ahrens on August 29, 1940 in Princeton, MO. In addition to being a life long partner to Pete on the farm and raising four children, Maxine served as school board secretary at Hilton Consolidated School until its closing and assistant postmaster for the Conroy post office into the early 1980's. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she had been an active in the Ladies Aid, Church Council, Sunday School and Bible School. Maxine enjoyed being active and supporting 4-H and was a life long sports fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes an St. Louis Cardinals. Maxine passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo at the age of 100.
Survivors are two sons: Richard Ahrens of Conroy and Stephen (Sue) Ahrens of Conroy; a daughter: Julie O'Donnell of Minneapolis, MN; a son-in-law: Norbert Neira of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren: Chris (Melanie) Ahrens, Stephanie Ahrens, Nick (Sue) Neira, David (Jennifer) Neira, Scott (Nicole) Neira, Molly (Brian) McFarlane and Anthony (Rebecca) O'Donnell; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and a sister: Jean Davis of Oskaloosa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2011, a daughter Connie Neira, two brothers Duane and Forrest Olson and four sisters Muriel Germony, Carolyn Jones, Doris Fetzer and Phyllis Olson.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the First Lutheran Church north of Conroy, Iowa. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials are for the First Lutheran Church or Hospice of Compassus of Cedar Rapids.
